Launch of Cairo Center and organization of three workshops:

Virtual Activism formally launched the Center for Knowledge Society which is its branch center in Cairo, Egypt in June 04, following the launching of its website mengos.net in January 04. One of its first projects is a series of three workshops that were conducted in an informal settlement in Cairo, with ten participants in each workshop. Each workshop lasted 2 days, and participants learnt how to access the Internet, send email, conduct searches for relevant information, and access useful sites. The workshop instructor was Doaa Hassan, the Center's asisstant.

Virtual Activism is pleased to announce the launching of its new project MENGOS, the Middle East Nongovernmental MengosOrganizations Gateway - Networking Civil Society. MENGOS is a unique online project that aims at disseminating information and promoting progressive human rights and development initiatives in the Arab Middle East. It is the first online project that focuses exclusively on the Middle East's under represented and marginalized NGOs, providing them with IT tools and knowledge that are specific to the region, in order to support and strengthen their work.
