Virtual Activism has just completed the online workshop
on Maximizing the use and effectiveness of the Internet
in Human Rights and Development [September/October]. Puleng
Letsie of the UNDP, Lesotho, said the workshop was "very
important, and it will definitely impact on my work as I
have learnt some very important internet basics to assist
me in the execution of my duties as I deal with providing
people with relevant and up-to-date information. Thank you
very much for giving us this opportunity. It has been a
worthwhile exercise." To read more workshop

Virtual Activism has just completed two online workshops:
the 3 week workshop Web Design Simplified [August/September]
and the 5 week Workshop Maximizing the use and effectiveness
of the Internet in Human Rights and Development [August/September].
"My organisation is already benefiting from the
training I have received," wrote Allen Ssekindi, Uganda
Media Women's Association, Uganda. "I am
already advising about the internet. The facilitator made
the training enjoyable and would make every effort to ensure
that every participant was following. This kept me going
knowing that some one cared in all this."

The Web Design Simplified workshop was attended by 6 participants.
As a pilot project, Virtual Activism chose to deliberately
limit the number of participants. Two participants did not
complete the workshop for personal reasons. Four completed
the workshop and have succeeded in creating their own websites.
"I did not imagine that after 3 weeks I would be able
to create a single page" said Nedal Sawlmah of the
Al Faraa Camp in Palestine, "Really, its fantastic".
Sheree Trotman from Barbados said:"This workshop is
evdience of what we can achieve by using the technology
we have at our disposal to equip people to become advocates
in all areas of human rights and other developmental issues."
She added: "I must commend the facilitator for her
patience in answering questions and creating a very amicable
virtual environment."

Previous online workshops news
The online workshop on Maximizing the use and effectiveness
of the Internet in Human Rights and Development that
took place in April/May was, according to Christina Wanke
a participant from Human Rights Internet, Canada, 'a smashing
success'.
The combination of "content and quality of this workshop..
[and] the time and energy that Marlyn put into it... Added
to this formula is the synergy of the participants (the
thought provoking questions and new information ... a fresh
set of eyes)" she added, made it all a success.
Virtual Activism's workshops are a combination of reading,
activities, and online discussions, as well as full of excellent
resources for the use of nonprofit organizations around
the world. The main principle of the workshops is to understand
the basics in terms of issues as well as technology, and
then begin using some of the tools the Internet offers for
advocacy, and especially making use of 'free tools' on the
Internet.
